Fat injection Application

One of the most important signs of the aging process is the loss of volume in the facial fat pads and superficial fat layer. This volume loss causes loose and sag of skin. Also facial contours change from a young, healthy, convex to curvy, old, unhealthy and concave appearance.

Volume losses, especially in the fat pads, lead to concave cheeks, prominence of the muscles in the subcutaneous tissue, prominent nasolabial folds, prominence in areas such as periorbital spaces and skeletonization of the face.

FAT HARVESTING

Generally, the fat harvested from the inner thigh or abdomen is injected into the selected tissue planes (superficial fat area, superficial muscular aponeurotic system (SMAS), deep fat area) after careful planning.

PREPARATION OF THE OIL

The material obtained by fat harvesting contains many components such as fat, dead adipocytes, blood and local anesthetics. The presence of any of these may cause graft necrosis, inflammation and vasoconstriction. Therefore, the harvested fat can be used after different procedures such as sedimentation, centrifugation, washing and filtration.

IS FAT A SUITABLE FILLER MATERIAL?

Autologous adipose tissue is one of the most biocompatible dermal fillers. It is considered an ideal filler for facial rejuvenation and many facial problems as it produces a soft and natural result and can have semi-permanent to permanent effects.

APPLICABLE REGIONS

Fat injection should be performed using techniques and instruments suitable for facial units. The areas in which fat injection is performed are forehead, temple, tear trough, periorbital area, cheek, malar area, nasolabial fold, lips and chin.

SITUATIONS THAT SHOULD NOT BE APPLIED

Contraindications for autologous fat grafting are: Extensive burn scars, Keloid formation, Coagulopathy, Lipid metabolism disorders, Severe chronic disease, Deep vein thrombosis, Pulmonary embolism.

COMPLICATION

Various complications related to fat grafting can be seen and the most common are swelling and bruising on the face, which is important to differentiate from cellulite. Swelling and bruising can last for a long time and often resolve spontaneously.
